Drainage planning for glass railing base shoes
Why the aluminum channel, slab edge, waterproofing and outlet must be coordinated as one project-specific water path.

Water reaching a glass railing base shoe needs a deliberate route. The aluminum profile is only one part of that route: the slab edge, waterproofing layer, finish build-up, drainage point and maintenance access all affect the final detail.
Two useful coordination concepts
An internal profile path directs water entering the channel toward coordinated drainage points in the aluminum profile. A project-side discharge path relies on the surrounding balcony or terrace construction to carry water toward an approved outlet.
Neither concept is a universal product guarantee. The appropriate solution depends on exposure, substrate, finish levels, joint design and the building’s waterproofing strategy.
Review drainage before installation
Drainage openings, profile fixing and waterproofing interfaces should be resolved before the channel is anchored. Late changes can conflict with anchors, cover plates or the intended surface finish.
